Beyond recovery: track how life feels

I wear WHOOP every day and journal in another app. Since spring 2026 WHOOP can log my habits by voice and remember my mood in conversations, yet “how did today feel” is still not a number WHOOP can learn from.

WHOOP knows your body and your habits, not your day

The Journal now covers 300+ behaviors, including a Mental Wellbeing category. Behavior Insights unlock after 5 “yes” and 5 “no” entries within 90 days and show associations with Recovery. Since April 2026 members can log by voice or text, and WHOOP AI suggests behaviors to add or remove. Stress Monitor (Peak and Life) estimates physiological stress from heart rate and HRV, and WHOOP AI's memory has a “Mood” category.

The gap: all of this treats feelings as inputs or chat context. No daily rated outcome exists, and the monthly mental health survey was discontinued after November 2022.

WHY NOW

WHOOP is positioning for an IPO and the friction of logging is falling.

Growth beyond athletes An IPO needs audiences beyond training-focused users.
Voice logging removes typing Voice journaling and AI-suggested behaviors already shipped in 2026.
Subjective data carries signal WHOOP's own JMIR study linked monthly self-reported stress to 7.9M days of wear data and found that stress reports preceded physiological changes.

04 · Why it's not solved yet
The analytics model WHOOP already covers mental wellbeing as a behavior. But every insight targets Recovery, Sleep or Strain, so feelings are logged as yes/no causes, never as the result.
Logging burden is real Diary apps keep only about 6 % of users at day 30. Studies that ask for daily ratings lasted about a week and paid participants.
Trust Mood and free-text entries are health data under GDPR, and many people already feel that monitoring adds stress.
WHOOP tried once and stopped The 2022 monthly survey was a beta that ended. Why it ended is unknown, and that is the first thing to learn.

Why WHOOP should build this

Members
One place for body and mind instead of a second app.
Retention
A daily personal log makes the product harder to leave and the data richer.
New audience
Reaches people who find WHOOP too athletic.
Product
Subjective labels make insights and Coach smarter.
SIZE (ASSUMPTIONS)

A range chain from WHOOP's members to regular loggers. Only the member count (2.5M+) is confirmed; the try and sustain rates are assumptions anchored on 160K+ unprompted stress entries and on diary apps keeping about 6 % at day 30. Included in every tier, so the value is retention: one point less yearly churn on 2.5M members at $199 to $440 per member and year (list price to a third-party bookings estimate) is about $5M to $11M.
